You're my space invader.

For this month, I have some deep space Dutch disco. Enjoy.

Spotted!

Image via Jak and Jil

Spotting Dree Hemingway wearing a light denim scarf gets me all giddy! The icing on the cake is that Tommy Ton exclaims that her style is "ah-mazing". A snazzy black ensemble paired with a denim scarf and tribal-patterned purse? --Heck yes! I gotta bust out my denim scarf more.

I'm OK

Just to assure you that I'm OK, here's an appropriate disco jam of the month coming at ya!

I hope you're OK, too. BTW, you should just follow me on Twitter. There's just no time to properly blog anymore.

I read this one morning while riding the subway.

Now the problem of love concerned him, mainly because he did not consider it a problem. Nevertheless, he was conscious of being unloved. This knowledge was like an extra heart beating inside him. But there was no one. Anna, perhaps. Did Anna love him? "Oh," said Anna, "when was anything ever what it seemed to be? Now it's a tadpole, now it's a frog. It looks like gold but you put it on your finger and it leaves a green ring. Take my second husband: he looked like a nice guy, and turned out to be just another heel. Look around this very room: why, you couldn't burn incense in that fireplace, and those mirrors, they give space, they tell a lie. Nothing, Walter, is ever what it seems to be. Christmas trees are cellophane, and snow is only soap chips. Flying around inside us is something called the Soul, and when you die you're never dead; yes, and when we're alive we're never alive. And so you want to know if I love you? Don't be dumb, Walter, we're not even friends...."

Excerpt from "Shut a Final Door" by Truman Capote

I don't know why I'm such a sucker for Capote's short stories.

A New Groove

Sorry for not updating for quite sometime. I've been trying to think of something to blog about but alas, nothing! Thank goodness it's March and I finally figured out a Disco jam to post. This song makes me want to dance sexy. If anyone sees this 12", it's MINE!

BTW, I love, love, love the different colored checkered jackets Omni members are sporting. And WTF is up with the thumbs up?

Blustery day

Sorry for laggin' on the bloggin'. I've actually got a couple of excuses: (1) I've been sick all week and currently have hearing loss, (2) my desktop computer that I just resurrected is once again not booting up anymore, and (3) Twittering is my new time-suck. Anyway, despite all the interesting Fashion Week stuff I've been hearing about on Twitter, I'm uber-uninspired to post anything. I'll just stick to talking about the Philadelphia weather like the previous post! It's funny... right after mentioning Edward Park's Summer photos, I swear Philadelphia was on the fast track to Spring. However, this week has proven my assumption wrong --we've gone back to the groove of Winter. It's been so cold and WINDY!

Siberian Summer

Despite last week's little snow storm, the weather has actually turned nice and sunny here in Philadelphia. Although it's still below 50 degrees, I know I'll soon be missing the bitter coldness. After all, the grass is always greener, right? In the meantime, I'm trying to stay warm by looking at Edward Park's "Summerhouse Story", which comprises of photos taken during a Russian getaway:

all navy me

Here's my first attempt at an all-navy ensemble. Of course I couldn't quite make it all navy, but I think it works.

Vintage polyester coat, Splendid jersey halter dress, vintage patent leather belt, vintage boots, vintage Echo silk scarf, Lanyard bracelet, fake vintage plastic floral ring

Sorry my head is chopped off. I swear I'm trying to get my digital camera working again. For now, my camera phone will have to suffice. To make it up to you, here's another photo with my face included.

OH HAI FROM WORK.

the winter navies

Navy blue is my new black. Love it or hate it:

I'm all over the all navy get-ups on boys... or rather, MEN. I should mention for future reference that I first took notice of this blue trend on my homeboy MVP.

fishythree gets crafty

Ahhh. Winter is in full-force. This was the view right outside my lab last night. Just looking at the photo makes me shiver. : ) Due to the formidable weather, my social life has been somewhat on a hiatus, which is great for my wallet, body, and mind. When I spend this much time alone in my cozy apartment, I start getting crafty. In fact, earlier this week, I turned a Hanes t-shirt into a shredded mess of a arm-spat (I'm still working on the one for my right hand). Also, yesterday I turned some retired J Brand jeans into a denim scarf (I know, it's kinda bizarre!). Here are both of my DIY projects together:

I just busted out the scarf today and it's doing a swell job of keeping my neck warm. Hopefully the weather will maintain so that I can finish up some grander undertakings (i.e. knit an over-sized scarf).

Happy February!

Yayyyyy. I'm so glad February is in full swing. Living on the East Coast has really made me hate January. It is officially my least favorite month of the year; it's cold, it's depressing, and it's soooo long --there's 31 days!!! To start things off right, I'll share with you this disco jam that I've had lined up forever:

Our pal Barry

Plastic Little's Jayson Musson took note of everyone's Obama fanaticism and decided to make a series of paintings paying homage to our most awesome US president/superhero Barack Obama. The opening was this past Friday at The Last Drop Cafe. It comes as no surprise that Jayson's paintings are as charming as he is. The shiznit was "off the hook":

Go check it out if you're in Philadelphia!

You're not that Obama crazy, you say? Maybe this Keith Up From Da Block song will change your mind:

A huge reward, or rather... splurge

Yesterday, I just couldn't help checking out the winter sale at Reward, my new favorite store. I'm stoked; I finally got the Henrik Vibskov cardigan I've been eying for quite sometime:

Henrik Vibskov cardigan, second-hand geometric blouse, second-hand necklace, American Apparel leggings, Lanyard Bracelet

Being the avid perfume-wearer that I am, I browsed the store's Six Scents (brilliant project sponsored by Seven New York) and couldn't resist getting #1:

"Urban Tropicalia" by Alexander Herchcovitch & Joachim Correll: Erogenous Cedar Wood- Amber Fond, Lemon, Cassis De Bourgeons, Lime, Green, Apple, Apricot, Jasmine, Tagete, Freesia, Cinnamon, Musk

*Shakes head!* So much for saving money during hard times.

Anything you can do I can do better

First, if you haven't noticed, my blog got a new look. Considering I have close to zero html skillz, this is a huge accomplishment. Yayyyy! Second, I know it's not that time of the month yet, but hey, my blog just got a makeover; I can afford to sneak in an extra disco song or two. One of my favorite disco songs of all time is Loose Joints - Is It All Over My Face. There are actually two versions: either with female or male vocals --double the fun, right?

Loose Joints - Is It All Over My Face (Male Vocal)

Loose Joints - Is It All Over My Face (Female Vocal)

I actually prefer the female vocals and I think the majority of people do since I never hear the male vocal version when I'm out. : P

Anyway, I just recently found out that one of the songs I've been listening to non-stop, Friendly Fires - Paris, has a version featuring Au Revoir Simone. You can download the two remixed versions via yousendit:

Friendly Fires - Paris (Justus Köhncke Remix)
Friendly Fires - Paris featuring Au Revoir Simone (Aeroplane Remix)

They're both sooo good. I can't figure out which one I like more.

Something new, something red

I’m a day late, but happy Chinese new year! I’m actually appalled that Google didn’t have a Chinese New Year-themed logo this year. *shrugs* Maybe the economic climate has forced the company to cut back on frivolous one-day designs? Anyway, it’s tradition to wear something new on the first day of the Chinese New Year along with some red --though I suppose the best outfit would contain something new and red. So keeping the promise that I’d take more pictures of my outfits, I figure I could show you the new shoes I got. (I apologize for the plainness of my outfit for such a special occasion.)

My enthusiasm is overwhelming... but really, I loveeee these boots. They are EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for --boots with a wooden heel and a combat boot-y feel to them. Not to mention, they are of higher quality than one would expect from Steve Madden shoes.

I think I’ll go ahead and make a Chinese New Year’s resolution of trying to wear heels more.

I want a fashionable briefcase!

Today, I had to carry a ton of stuff to work in my lil' IDIB tote bag and was thinking to myself, "Self, I think you should get a new receptacle to carry your shit. The Chrome bag and tote bag just won't do." But what would I use instead? A backpack? A duffle bag? NOPE. I FOUND THE ANSWER. THIS IS WAYYY TOO GOOD TO PASS UP:

adjfskjflsjdflsjdlfj! <3333! This picture makes me so giddy! This puts me in a good mood so I'll let you guys download a decent Kanye West - Love Lockdown remix:

Diabolik-al Outfit

Right after I watched "Barbarella", I watched another late 60s movie staring John Phillip Law called "Danger: Diabolik". It was actually better than I had remembered; though, the first time I watched it, I was at a dingy bar and there was no sound. Anyway, it should be of no surprise that I spotted a crazy outfit in this psychedelic action movie:

YES! The matching earrings and sparkle leggings are KEY!

Dark Kisses

For the past few weeks, I've been admiring the current dark lipstick fad. Though I do love the vampy look from YSL...

...being the modest girl that I am, I prefer the Derek Lam's more reserved take on the same trend:

Nonetheless, I've been trying to get my hands on this super vogue black YSL lip gloss:
Though I could never pull off looking like a YSL vampire, customer reviews were saying that the lip gloss was as subtle or extreme as one wanted it to be. I was sold. Alas, when I finally decided to fork over the $28 on Barneys.com (they were offering free shipping), they canceled my order because the lip gloss was sold out. How rude! Oh well, I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Apparently it's sold out EVERYWHERE except ebay --no thanks.

I didn't give up though! I was having some "me-time" this weekend and came up with the idea to recession-proof this makeup trend with the help of my black and purple eyeliners. (To be exact, I blended NARS "Jungle Red" lipstick + Estee Lauder black eyeliner + Sephora lilac eyeliner + un-tinted lip gloss). Crazy, I know; I'm actually a little embarrassed about it even though I shouldn't be; these are hard economic times! Anyway, my lips came out kinda blotchy, but hey, (a) I forgot to apply lip primer first and (b) I didn't spend an extra cent! I'm pretty stoked with the results. See for yourself:

What would I do for longer lashes?

I just stumbled across an article in the NY Times Health section (my favorite section) and I couldn't resist blogging about it --even when I'm in the middle of frantically writing a grant that is due this Friday! AHHH! Anyway, the article mentioned how these eye drops used to treat glaucoma has been serendipitously found to make eyelashes longer and fuller! In fact, the drug has already been shown to work in a clinical trial and is now FDA approved to "improve" eyelashes. OMG! Usually, I don't care for these crazy cosmetic enhancements, but if there's one thing I could change about myself it's the length of my eyelashes. Seriously, I own at least five different mascaras and all of them don't really work because I don't have eyelashes to begin with! Moreover, applying false eyelashes are THE HARDEST THING for me to do. I'm so stoked. I am honestly considering this medication when it comes out on the market.

the babe-arella

I recently watched the movie "Barbarella" and though I was not impressed by the storyline, I was quite fond of Jane Fonda's ever-changing exotic wardrobe:

Best sexy superhero outfit ever! I gotta give props to the the ying-yang belt buckle!

Hmmph! According to Photobucket, the original picture I posted was too explicit, so this new picture will have to do. This costume is pretty hot as well, but alas, it kinda reminds me of Peter Pan. Though, I do dig the jewelry.

Of course I have to mention that Barbarella's big hair is AMAZING in the movie even after she has future-sex (you'll have to see the movie if you don't know what I'm talking about).

Speaking of Jane Fonda's hair, I just remembered that Erin (friend and hairstylist) told me that one of her clients once brought in a picture of Jane Fonda's mugshot and asked her to cut her hair exactly that way. Of course I had to google the photo up:

I think it's safe to say Jane Fonda looks beautiful under all circumstances and she's got bangin' mugshot hair.

The Debut

A very long time ago, Dave Tat asked me to spin some jams for his weekly interweb radio show on Party934. Now, it's finally happening. It'll be my first time playing records for the masses. Tune in? Details are below. I promise no mixing whatsoever. : P

Making over

Happy new year! Oye, I've broken two of my new year's resolutions already: I've been getting into work at around 12-1pm and I've been eating one candy bar per day. Fortunately, I am still buying more local and I'm really trying to update my LJ and blog more. So I'm even. Cheers to the first post of the year!

Even though New Year's Eve is always totally overrated, Shaun told me that if I stayed at home, I might as well commit social suicide. Fair enough. I put on my best dress and the gaudiest pair of earrings I own:

Vintage black dress, Betsey Johnson earrings, second-hand necklace, Seychelles studded boots

Argh, the dress makes my arms look horrible. Oh well, maybe I'll work on that this year. And yes, I was definitely overdressed for a low-key house party. Oh well again! I'm still going to try to dress even better this year AND TAKE PICTURES OF MY OUTFITS! YES, 2009 IS THE YEAR!

And now for what you've been really waiting for: the disco song of the month. You thought this was just a fad, huh? I'll have you know that I'm gonna try my best to keep this little monthly thing going on strong this year. This month's song is one of my fav jams and I originally wanted to blog about it when I started posting disco songs, but it wasn't on Youtube yet. Lucky for you, it now is. The song kinda suits the New Year theme I have going on: I hate sharing personal matters on my blog, but honestly, I think my love life needs a 2009 makeover!
